Au Pair Requirements


 

The au pair position is focused on caring 
for children. An au pair must:
Enjoy children and possess the 
responsibility, skill and maturity to 
complete one year of living and working in 
an American home as part of an American 
family;

The au pair position is focused on childcare, and an au pair must enjoy caring for, relating to, being with, playing with and teaching children and possess the responsibility, skill and maturity to complete one year of living and working in an American home as part of an American family. 

In order to qualify for participation in the Au Pair program, an au pair must:

Be between 18 and 26 years of age;

Be proficient in spoken English; English proficiency is determined through completion of a personal interview with our branch office in your home country to evaluate your English level;

Take and pass a personal interview with our branch office in your home country conducted in English to determine your suitability for the au pair program.

Take and pass a Psychometric Evaluation administered by our branch office in your home country;

Have 200 documented hours of childcare experience from non-related family members. Infant Qualified Applicants must have 200 hours of documented infant experience for children under 2 years of age.

Have a high school diploma;

Present two non-family childcare references and at least one non-family character reference. References might include, for example, work done with day-care centers, neighbors and/or schools.

Present an original criminal background investigation document (e.g. Police Report) from local authorities;

Present evidence of medical examination demonstrating overall health sufficient to participate in the au pair program;

Have a willingness to engage in ongoing cultural immersion activities while participating in the au pair program in the USA;

Complete 6 units of course study at an accredited post-secondary learning institution in the U.S. during the one year of participation in the au pair program;
